Merimbula Air Services
The development of the present-day Merimbula Airport dates from 1965.
Merimbula Air Services, which plays a major role in the operation of the airport, evolved from a company established that year as "Flight Facilities".
Among its services MAS provide aircraft charter, scenic flights along the Far South Coast , flights to Gabo Island and other aerial work in the south east region of NSW.
Flight training is available from qualified instructors.
The company is also an agent for helicopter flights and conducts sky diving in season.
The Merimbula Air Services website sets out the history of the company, and highlights the involvement of the Late Laurie Gruzman QC.
Many local people played major roles helping to develop an air-to-sea rescue system invented by Mr Gruzman. They devoted massive amounts of their time over many years as volunteers to help perfect and test the system , known as PADS ( Precision Aerial Delivery System ).
The project is described in great detail in the History page of the MAS website.
